A Symphony of Light and Water
For John Elliott’s SS17 show, “Watching Water,” the vision was to create a runway experience that mirrored the designer’s philosophy: simplicity in materials, depth in execution. The creative inspiration was drawn from the interplay of light, water, and reflection, transforming the traditional fashion show into an immersive spectacle.
A Reflection of Elegance
Eschewing the conventional runway, we designed a set where models walked alongside a custom-built reflection pool, their movements mirrored by the shimmering water. The space was alive with light, as strategically placed mirrors bounced beams across the room, crafting a dynamic shadow-play that danced along the walls. The result was a visual dialogue between John’s designs and the natural elements, each enhancing the other in a seamless blend of fashion and environment.
An Auditory Experience
To complement the visual elements, we collaborated with producer Lee Bannon, who composed an original soundtrack that resonated with the intensity of the setting. The music, curated to perfection, thundered overhead as models made their way down the runway. In a groundbreaking moment for both fashion and music, Boiler Room live-streamed the show to millions of subscribers worldwide, marking their inaugural foray into the world of fashion shows.
Crafting the Experience
Our work on this project spanned creative direction, experience design, and stage design. By integrating light, water, and sound, we created an atmosphere that was both minimal and profound, earning the show a place among the Top 10 of the season globally. The collaboration between John Elliott and Boiler Room set a new standard for what a fashion show could be—an experience where every element, from the garments to the music, worked in harmony to tell a cohesive story.
